Route 93 Bridge Replacement Update

Bridge Over Riverside Avenue to be Replaced June 3-June 6

Riverside Ave., Salem St. to be Closed for Periods Week of May 31

I-93 construction activities to prepare for the replacement of fourteen deteriorated bridge superstructures in Medford this summer will continue over the weekend and next week.

The first bridge replacement on Route I-93 north over Riverside Avenue will take place between 8:00 PM Friday, June 3rd and 5:00 AM Monday, June 6th. A separate advisory for this event will be issued.

The following work activities and related lane closures are scheduled to occur:

Route I-93 Northbound

– Double left lane closures at Exit 32 (Route 60) on Tuesday, May 31 and Wednesday, June 1 between 8 PM and 5 AM.

– Double right lane closures at Exit 32 (Route 60) on Thursday, June 2 between 8 PM and 5 AM.

– Double left lane closures or double right lane closures at Exit 31 (Route 16) on Saturday, May 28 between 10 PM and 5 AM.

– Double right lane closures at Exit 31 (Route 16) on Monday, May 30 between 11 PM and 5 AM and on Thursday, June 2 between 8 PM and 5 AM.

– Right lane closure between Exit 31 (Route 16) and Exit 32 (Route 60) on Tuesday, May 31 through Friday, June 3 between 9 AM and 2 PM.

– Left lane closure in isolated areas between Exit 29 (Routes 28/38) and Exit 33 (Route 28) on Tuesday, May 31 through Friday, June 3 between 9 AM and 2 PM.

Local Roadways & Waterways

Riverside Avenue

Intermittent single lane or shoulder closures on Saturday, May 28 and on Wednesday, June 1 through Friday, June 3 between 7 AM and 5 PM. Provisions for pedestrian access will be maintained.

Salem Street/Route 60 (East and West)

Intermittent single lane or shoulder closures on Saturday, May 28 and on Tuesday, May 31 through Friday, June 3 between 7 AM and 5 PM and on Tuesday, May 31 through Friday, June 3 between 9 PM and 5 AM. Provisions for pedestrian access will be maintained.

Full closure of Salem Street (Route 60) east on Tuesday, May 31 between 9 PM and 5 AM.

Full closure of Salem Street (Route 60) west on Wednesday, June 1 between 9 PM and 5 AM.

Route 16

Intermittent single lane or shoulder closures on Saturday, May 28 and on Tuesday, May 31 through Thursday, June 2 between 7 AM and 5 PM. Provisions for pedestrian access will be maintained.

Full closure of Route 16 on Sunday, May 29 between 10 PM and 7 AM and on Monday, May 30 through Tuesday, May 31 between 9 PM and 5 AM.

Valley Street/Fellsway

Intermittent single lane or shoulder closures on Friday, May 27 between 9 PM and 5 AM and on Saturday, May 28 through Friday, June 3 between 7 AM and 5 PM. Provisions for pedestrian access will be maintained.

Mystic River

Barge placement and periodic movement within the Mystic River will reduce the navigable channel on Friday, May 27 through Friday, June 3.

Webster Street

Intermittent single lane or shoulder closures on Tuesday, May 31 through Friday, June 3 between 7 AM and 5 PM. Provisions for pedestrian access will be maintained.

MassDOT encourages drivers and marine traffic to allow extra time for their trips and to reduce speed and use caution when travelling through all work zones.
