Yanakopulos Lifts MC Over Medford
|Medford native and Malden Catholic senior Paul Yanakopulos helped lift his team to a 2-0 victory over Medford on Saturday in the annual Holovak and Coughlin baseball tournament. He banged a triple in the fifth and was able to come home on a sac fly. Yanakopulos has been a varsity starter for Head Coach Steve Freker’s baseball team for four years and was a standout player in the Intercity League last summer as a member of the Andre Chiefs. The two-year captain led the Catholic Conference in home runs (six) and RBI’s (thirty-three) in 2010, earning him recognition as a league all-star and Medford Daily Mercury All-Scholastic. He has signed a letter of intent to play baseball at UMass Amherst next season. Other Medford natives on the MC baseball roster include senior John McGonagle, junior Paul Covelle, and sophomore Jake Porrazzo.
