On Sunday, June 5 members of Grace Episcopal Church are hoping to get the city moving during a day of fun physical activities for the family.
“Let’s Move Medford!” is part of Michelle Obama’s national Let’s Move campaign to end childhood obesity. The “day of fun and learning” will include activities such as Zumba, karate, relay races, hula hoops, tumbling, yoga, and other activities sure to get people moving. In addition more than thirty community organizations, including Medford Family Network, Medford Health Matters, the Medford Boys and Girls Club, and others will be there to help educate participants about strategies for healthy living. There will also be programs put on by local dance studios and gyms.
Everyone who attends will be entered into a raffle for several prizes, including Red Sox tickets, restaurant gift cards, and free weeks at a summer camp and childcare program, among other things.
According to one of the event organizers, Cindy Scott, the event is part of an attempt to reach young children to provide them with examples for healthy living, such as eating good food and getting regular exercise.
“We are hoping to show children that living a healthy lifestyle is fun. We want to encourage an attitude that healthy living makes for more fun living and ultimately more fulfilling living,” said Scott.
The event is taking place from 1-4:00PM at Hormel Stadium and will move into the McGlynn School gym in the event of bad weather. All are welcome to attend.
