Route 93 Bridge Replacement Update

Route 16 Overpass Next Bridge to be Replaced; Work to Happen June 16-June 20

I-93 construction activities to prepare for the replacement of fourteen deteriorated bridge superstructures in Medford this summer continues next week.

The third bridge replacement on Route I-93 north over Route 16 will take place between 8:00 PM Friday, June 17th and 5:00 AM Monday, June 20th. A separate advisory for this event will be issued.

The following work activities and related lane closures are scheduled to occur:

Route I-93 Northbound

– Single right or left lane closures between Exit 31 (Route 16) and Exit 33 (Route 28) on Monday, June 13 through Friday, June 17 between 9 AM and 2 PM.

– Double left lane closures between Exit 29 (Routes 28/38) and Exit 33 (Route 28) on Tuesday, June 14 and Wednesday, June 15 between 8 PM and 5 AM.

Local Roadways & Waterways

Riverside Avenue

– Intermittent single lane or shoulder closures on Monday, June 13 through Friday, June 17 between 7 AM and 5 PM and on Thursday, June 16 between 9 PM and 5 AM. Provisions for pedestrian access will be maintained.

Salem Street/Route 60 (East and West)

– Intermittent single lane or shoulder closures on Monday, June 13 through Friday, June 17 between 7 AM and 5 PM. Provisions for pedestrian access will be maintained.

Route 16

– Intermittent single lane or shoulder closures on Monday, June 13 through Friday, June 17 between 7 AM and 5 PM. Provisions for pedestrian access will be maintained.

– Left lane closure on the ramp from Route 16 west to Route 16 (Mystic Valley Parkway) on Tuesday, June 14 through Friday, June 17 between 8 AM and 2 PM.

– Full closure of Route 16 in the area beneath I-93 beginning on Friday, June 17 at 6:00 PM and continuing through Monday, June 20 at 5 AM.

Valley Street/Fellsway

– Intermittent single lane or shoulder closures on Wednesday, June 15 through Friday, June 17 between 7 AM and 5 PM. Provisions for pedestrian access will be maintained.

– Full closure of Valley Street/Route 28 (Fellsway) south in the area beneath I-93 on Tuesday, June 14 between 9 PM and 5 AM.

Mystic River

– Barge placement and periodic movement within the Mystic River will reduce the navigable channel on Monday, June 13 through Monday, June 20. Portions of the channel will be significantly restricted on Monday, June 13 through Friday, June 17 between 9 PM and 5 AM.

Webster Street

– Full closure of Webster Street in the area beneath I-93 on Wednesday, June 15 between 9 PM and 5 AM.

MassDOT encourages drivers and marine traffic to allow extra time for their trips and to reduce speed and use caution when travelling through all work zones.
