Fourth Weekend of I-93 Construction June 24-27

I-93 construction activities to prepare for the replacement of fourteen deteriorated bridge superstructures in Medford this summer continues next week.

The fourth weekend of bridge replacements will focus on the Route I-93 north bridge over Valley Street/Fellways (Route 28 south) and the center span of the Route I-93 north bridge over the Mystic River. The work will take place between 8:00 PM Friday, June 24th and 5:00 AM Monday, June 27th. A separate advisory for this event will be issued.

The following work activities and related lane closures are scheduled to occur:

Route I-93 Northbound

– Double left lane closures between Exit 29 (Routes 28/38) and Exit 33 (Route 28) on Monday, June 20 through Thursday, June 23 between 8 PM and 5 AM.

– Alternating single right or left lane closure between Exit 29 (Routes 28/38) and Exit 33 (Route 28) on Monday, June 20 through Friday, June 24 between 9 AM and 2 PM.

Route I-93 Southbound

– Right lane closure between Exit 33 (Route 28) and Exit 32 (Route 60) on Wednesday, June 22 between 10 PM and 1 AM. During this time, the on ramp to I-93 South from Route 28 (Roosevelt Circle) at Exit 33 and the off ramp from I-93 South to Route 60 at Exit 32 may be closed.

Local Roadways & Waterways

Riverside Avenue

– Intermittent single lane or shoulder closures on Monday, June 20 and Tuesday, June 21 between 7 AM and 5 PM. Provisions for pedestrian access will be maintained.

Salem Street/Route 60 (East and West)

– Intermittent single lane or shoulder closures on Monday, June 20 through Friday, June 24 between 7 AM and 5 PM. Provisions for pedestrian access will be maintained.

Route 16

– Intermittent single lane or shoulder closures on Wednesday, June 22 through Friday, June 24 between 7 AM and 5 PM and Thursday, June 23 through Friday, June 24 between 9 PM and 5 AM. Provisions for pedestrian access will be maintained.

– Alternating left or right lane closures in each direction on Tuesday, June 21 and Wednesday, June 22 between 7:30 PM and 5 AM. Provisions for pedestrian access will be maintained.

Valley Street/Fellsway

– Full closure of Valley Street/Route 28 (Fellsway) south in the area beneath I-93 beginning on Friday, June 24 at 6:00 PM and continuing through Monday, June 27 at 5 AM.

Mystic River

– Full closure of the channel on Wednesday, June 22 and Thursday, June 23 between 8 PM and 5 AM.

MassDOT encourages drivers and marine traffic to allow extra time for their trips and to reduce speed and use caution when travelling through all work zones.
