Legion Baseball Ties Malden, Beats Tyngsborough
|The Medford Post 45 American Legion baseball team is now 2-1-1 after two weekend games against Malden and Tyngsborough.
On Friday at Devir Park Medford ended up tying Malden 4-4 after the game was called due to darkness. Medford took the lead in the seventh but since Malden didn’t get its last at bat the score at the end of the sixth became final.
Malden Catholic junior Paul Covelle pitched a complete game, giving up three earned runs and striking out nine. Arlington Catholic’s Ryan Carvalho was 2-3 with an RBI while Belmont Hill’s Nolan Brennan had an RBI triple, according to Coach Ryan Kozul. Other familiar faces in the lineup included 2011 Medford High School grad and baseball captain Chris Salvati, Mustang baseball players Nick Rocco, Mike Pizzi, and John Lavoie, and 2010 MHS grad Kyle Heath.
On Saturday Medford defeated Tyngsboro 6-2. Brennan pitched five strong innings to earn the win and Mustang baseball player Pat Duffy earned the save, pitching two innings without allowing a run and striking out three. Duffy was also 3-4 with two RBI’s while Suffolk University’s James McConville added an RBI double and Lavoie also contributed an RBI.
Medford is on the road on Tuesday at Concord and Sunday at North Chelmsford. The team hosts Lexington on Wednesday at 5:45PM at Playstead Park and Natick on Saturday at 11:00AM.
