Route 93 Bridge Construction Update

Webster Street, Mystic River Overpasses Under Construction July 8-11

I-93 construction activities to prepare for the replacement of fourteen deteriorated bridge superstructures in Medford this summer continues next week.

The fifth weekend of bridge replacements will focus on the Route I-93 north bridge over Webster Street and the two approach spans of the Route I-93 north bridge over the Mystic River. The work will take place between 8:00 PM Friday, July 8th and 5:00 AM Monday, July 11th. A separate advisory for this event will be issued.

The following weekday work activities and related lane closures are scheduled to occur:

Route I-93 Northbound

– Double left lane closures between Exit 29 (Routes 28/38) and Exit 33 (Route 28) on Tuesday, July 5 and Thursday, July 7 between 8 PM and 5 AM.

– Alternating double left lane or double right lane closures between Exit 29 (Routes 28/38) and Exit 34 (Route 28 Main Street) on Wednesday, July 6 between 8 PM and 5 AM.

– Alternating single right or left lane closure between Exit 29 (Routes 28/38) and Exit 33 (Route 28) on Tuesday, July 5 through Friday, July 8 between 9 AM and 2 PM.

Route I-93 Southbound

– Alternating single right or left lane closure between Exit 33 (Route 28) and Exit 31 (Route 38) on Thursday, July 7 and Friday, July 8 between 10 AM and 3 PM.

Local Roadways & Waterways

Riverside Avenue

– Single lane or shoulder closures on Tuesday, July 5 through Friday, July 8 between 7 AM and 5 PM. Provisions for pedestrian access will be maintained.

Salem Street/Route 60 (East and West)

– Single lane or shoulder closures on Wednesday, July 6 through Friday, July 8 between 7 AM and 5 PM. Provisions for pedestrian access will be maintained.

Route 16

– Single lane or shoulder closures on Tuesday, July 5 through Thursday, July 7 between 7 AM and 5 PM. Provisions for pedestrian access will be maintained.

Valley Street/Fellsway

– Single lane or shoulder closures on Tuesday, July 5 through Friday, July 8 between 7 AM and 5 PM. Provisions for pedestrian access will be maintained.

Mystic River

– Barge placement and periodic movement within the Mystic River will reduce the navigable channel on Tuesday, July 5 through Friday, July 8.

– Full closure of the channel beginning on Friday, July 8 at 6:00 PM and continuing through Monday, July 11 at 5 AM.

Webster Street

– Single lane or shoulder closures on Tuesday, July 5 between 9 PM and 5 AM. Webster Street eastbound traffic will be detoured during this work period. Provisions for pedestrian access will be maintained.

– Full closure of Webster Street in the area beneath I-93 beginning on Friday, July 8 at 6:00 PM and continuing through Monday, July 11 at 5 AM.

MassDOT encourages drivers and marine traffic to allow extra time for their trips and to reduce speed and use caution when travelling through or adjacent to all work zones.
