Route 93 Bridge Replacement Update
Lane Restrictions, Detours Expected July 18-22

I-93 construction activities associated with the replacement of fourteen deteriorated bridge superstructures in Medford this summer continues next week.
The seventh weekend of bridge replacements will focus on the Route I-93 South bridge over Route 28 South (Fellsway)/Valley Street and the center span on the Route I-93 South bridge over the Mystic River. That work will take place between 8:00 PM Friday, July 22nd and 5:00 AM Monday, July 25th. A separate advisory will be issued for this event.
Next week, the following weekday work activities and related lane closures are scheduled to occur:
Route I-93 Northbound
– Single left lane closure between Exit 31 (Route 16) and Exit 33 (Route 28) on Tuesday, July 19 and Wednesday, July 20 between 8 PM and 5 AM.
– Single right lane closure between Exit 29 (Routes 28/38) and Exit 33 (Route 28) on Monday, July 18 through Thursday, July 21 between 9 AM and 2 PM and on Friday, July 22 between 9 AM and 12 noon.
Route I-93 Southbound
– Double left lane closures between Exit 33 (Roosevelt Circle – Route 28/Fellsway) and Exit 31 (Route 16) on Monday, July 18 through Wednesday, July 20 between 8 PM and 5 AM.
– Double right lane closures between Exit 32 (Route 60) and Exit 31 (Route 16) on Thursday, July 21 between 8 PM and 5 AM.
Local Roadways & Waterways
Riverside Avenue
– Single lane or shoulder closures will require the use of alternating one way traffic on Tuesday, July 19 through Friday, July 22 between 7 AM and 5 PM. Provisions for pedestrian access will be maintained.
Salem Street/Route 60 (East and West)
– Single lane or shoulder closures on Monday, July 18 through Thursday, July 21 between 7 AM and 5 PM. Provisions for pedestrian access will be maintained.
Valley Street/Route 28 South (Fellsway)
– Single lane or shoulder closures on Monday, July 18 between 9 PM and 5 AM and on Monday, July 18 through Wednesday, July 20 between 7 AM and 5 PM. Provisions for pedestrian access will be maintained. The section of Valley Street beneath I-93 may be closed during these periods depending on the specific activities being undertaken and the associated work zone requirements.
– Full closure of Route 28 South (Fellsway)/Valley Street in the area beneath I-93 beginning on Friday, July 22 at 6:00 PM and continuing through Monday, July 25 at 5 AM.
Mystic River
– Barge placement and periodic movement within the Mystic River will reduce the navigable channel on Monday, July 18 through Friday, July 22.
– Full closure of the channel beginning on Friday, July 22 at 6:00 PM and continuing through Monday, July 25 at 5 AM.
Webster Street
– Single lane or shoulder closures on Monday, July 18 through Friday, July 22 between 7 AM an 5 PM. Webster Street eastbound traffic may be detoured during these periods depending on the specific activities being undertaken and the associated work zone requirements. If an eastbound detour is not implemented, alternating one way traffic will be used. Provisions for pedestrian access will be maintained.
MassDOT encourages drivers and marine traffic to allow extra time for their trips and to reduce speed and use caution when travelling through or adjacent to all work zones.
