A gallery exhibit featuring Ian Dobrowolski’s stunning photographs of local Massachusetts movie theaters will open with a reception on Thursday, July 28th at Springstep in Medford. The photographs depict the culture of modern movie theaters, from the bold, bright marquees, to the hidden projector room, to the ever-enticing, ever-expensive concession stand. The exhibit will also consist of historic images of several of Medford’s many movie theaters that once served as the social hub of the town as well as vintage movie posters and advertisements, juxtaposing the old and the new.
Dobrowolski’s collection was inspired by the magic and thrill we can all relate to when attending the movies. He began the project two years ago as a student at the New England School of Photography. “This collection will be a never-ending project for me,†says Dobrowolski. “The theater is something that is so close to my heart. It fascinates me.â€
Light refreshments will be served at the reception being held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Silver Screenings will be available for viewing through August 26th, Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., and evenings and weekends when other programs are in session.
