Bridges Done, Work Continues
14 New Bridges in Place; Construction Continues Through Month of August

I-93 construction activities associated with the replacement of fourteen deteriorated bridge superstructures in Medford this summer continues next week.
Although the tenth and final weekend of bridge superstructure replacements will take place this weekend, there will be additional weekend work during the remainder of the month of August to complete associated road and bridge improvements within the project limits. A separate advisory will be issued for work scheduled for the weekend of August 19 through August 22.
Next week, the following weekday work activities and related lane closures are scheduled to occur:
Route I-93 Northbound
– Single right lane closure between Exit 29 (Route 28/38) and Exit 33 (Route 28) on Monday, August 15 through Thursday, August 18 between 9 AM and 2 PM.
– Double left lane closures between Exit 29 (Routes 28/38) and Exit 34 (Route 28 North) on Monday, August 15 through Thursday, August 18 between 8 PM and 5 AM.
Route I-93 Southbound
– Alternating single right lane or left lane closure between Exit 33 (Route 28) and Exit 31 (Route 16) on Monday, August 15 through Thursday, August 18 between 10 AM and 3 PM and on Friday, August 19 between 10 AM and 12 PM.
– Double right lane closures between Exit 33 (Roosevelt Circle – Route 28/Fellsway) and Exit 31 (Route 16) on Monday, August 15 between 8 PM and 5 AM.
– Double left lane closures between Exit 33 (Roosevelt Circle – Route 28/Fellsway) and Exit 31 (Route 16) on Tuesday, August 16 between 8 PM and 5 AM.
– Single left lane closure between Exit 30 (Route 38) and Exit 28 (Sullivan Square) on Tuesday, August 16 through Thursday, August 18 between 8 PM and 5 AM.
Local Roadways & Waterways
Riverside Avenue
– Periodic single lane or shoulder closures on Monday, August 15 through Friday, August 19 between 7 AM and 5 PM. Provisions for pedestrian access will be maintained.
Salem Street/Route 60 (East and West)
– Periodic single lane or shoulder closures on Monday, August 15 through Friday, August 19 between 7 AM and 5 PM. Provisions for pedestrian access will be maintained.
Route 16
– Periodic single lane or shoulder closures on Monday, August 15 through Friday, August 19 between 7 AM and 5 PM. Provisions for pedestrian access will be maintained.
Valley Street/Route 28 South (Fellsway)
– Periodic single lane or shoulder closures on Monday, August 15 through Friday, August 19 between 7 AM and 5 PM. Provisions for pedestrian access will be maintained. The section of Valley Street beneath I-93 may be closed during these periods depending on the specific activities being undertaken and the associated work zone requirements.
Mystic River
– Barge placement and periodic movement within the Mystic River will reduce the navigable channel on Monday, August 15 through Monday, August 22.
Webster Street
– Periodic single lane or shoulder closures on Monday, August 15 through Friday, August 19 between 7 AM and 5 PM. Webster Street eastbound traffic may be detoured or restricted during these periods depending on the specific activities being undertaken and the associated work zone requirements. If an eastbound detour is not implemented, alternating one way traffic may be used. Provisions for pedestrian access will be maintained.
MassDOT encourages drivers and marine traffic to allow extra time for their trips and to reduce speed and use caution when travelling through or adjacent to all work zones.
