Mayor: City Trash, Recycling Program a Success
|The City of Medford’s new waste/recycling program continues to bring in big numbers in savings for all residents! According to Mayor McGlynn, “we are still on target to save $1/2 million in recycling costs for the first 12 months for the single stream program. We have also exceeded the goal of 5,000 less tons of trash for the first year.â€
For the month of August, Medford had 349 tons of less trash bringing the total of 5,344 less tons. Medford’s total financial savings for the past ten months equals $433,090.00!
In addition, Medford has received a credit of $21,054 towards the processing for recycling due to the value of the recyclables.
This waste/recycling program has been very positive and produced great results for our community. Medford continues to lead in leaving behind a better environment for all future generations.

they have less trash tunnage collected because they are leaving trash on the streets!!! Every week neighbors have “snow coning” barrels that get left behind or recycling barrels with trash out on non-recycling weeks that get left behind, and once every few weeks my rule-conforming barrel gets ignored by collectors.
Allison, I would like to see this Administration show us exactly what monies are coming in and how they are effectively used. From Waste Management to Comcast there doesn’t seem to be any “bidding”. None of the newspapers in this city have effectively covered how McGlynn chooses these huge corporations and why one person decides for everyone.
Too bad the big barrels are such an eyesore all over the city. Most homes don’t have garages that fit them, so they are left on front walkways, porches, etc. IT’S UGLY! I love the program, but no one thought about where the barrels would go… visitors have asked me more than once “what are those big ugly things and why are they everywhere?”
