The Mustang golf team was hoping to earn an uncontested GBL title this season but the team suffered a narrow loss to Malden on Monday.
Medford came in second place in the GBL golf championship match, which was held at Indian Ridge Country Club in Andover. Jimmy Cecchini earned second place overall and “shot 79 on a very difficult course,” according to Head Coach Ray Dyer.
Junior Maxine Harney shot 88 and captain Brendan Baker shot 89.
“We played well, said Coach Dyer, “but Malden was just a little better on this day.”
Medford will play Cambridge on Tuesday and a win could still nab a league title for the Mustangs.
