Medford Deli Celebrates 1-Year Anniversary
|Two Arlington residents recently celebrated a one-year anniversary of their business, The Medford Deli at 460 High St. As many as 400 people attended.
To open the festivities, Medford Mayor Michael McGlynn cut a six-foot deli sandwich in half to the applause of all onlookers.
The Boar’s Head delicatessen provides catering for all occasions.
The owners are Rich McDaniel and Neal O’Brien. Before they opened, both were builders and carpenters. They decided to open this business to accommodate the communities they lived in and where they decided to raise their families.
They say the Medford Deli has become successful by word of mouth because of their delicious sandwiches, take-home prepared meals and homemade comfort food. Their following point to their quality catering and cooked-to-order fresh sauté.
“Ordering up a hot individual serving of fresh marsala or chicken, ziti and broccoli for a nominal cost is something that we offer our valued customers,” McDaniel said.
The one-year anniversary event was enjoyable for all ages, and all attending were well fed.
The Medford Deli provided many samples of their homemade meatballs in marinara sauce, homemade cranberry walnut chicken salad, popular wings and other items that have become staple food items to the neighborhood.
“Any merchant that is willing to open a business in this economy will always have the backing of our city,” said Medford Mayor Michael McGlynn, who was present. “Medford has witnessed the Medford Deli give back to the community by way of sponsoring sports teams and donating to local fund-raising events ranging from cancer cures to the local Rotary clubs.
“We wish the Medford Deli continued success in this community and appreciate the value they have added to our city.”
Many children were present, and they were treated to tasty chocolate cupcakes with vanilla frosting made by the aspiring food-service students from the Shawsheen Tech Vocational School. Several Shawsheen students are employed by the Medford Deli at any given time throughout their co-op studies.
The owners commented on the kindness and compassion demonstrated by the West Medford community and further applauded the fine young people that this neighborhood has generated.
“We have been fortunate enough to employ many young people from this community, and it is exciting to see young adults with forward vision in schooling and business, O’Brien said.
