The Arlington Catholic girls cross country team once again proved why they are the three-time Catholic Central League cross country champions. On Thursday the Lady Cougars defeated all their league competition with a convincing victory at the CCL Championships, which was held at Franklin Park on a less-than-fall-like day. The Cougars won despite a thirty-eight degree temperature, heavy rain, and treacherous running conditions.
The AC girls were led by junior captain Janelle Solviletti of Billerica in fifth place, followed by sophomore Kaitlin McCauley of Watertown in seventh, junior Lauren O’Neil of Stoneham placing in eleventh, freshman Kathleen McLaughlin of Waltham in fifteenth place, senior captain Brigid Kirkpatrick of Medford in seventeenth, senior captain Mary Stanton of Waltham in nineteenth, and senior captain Becca Gonsalves of Woburn finishing twenty-third. The Lady Cougars finished with a total of fifty points, followed by Bishop Fenwick with sixty-two points, and Cardinal Spellman with seventy-one points. Rounding up the Catholic Central League was Marion, Arch Bishop Williams, St. Mary’s, Matignon, Austin Prep, and Lowell Catholic.
Next up for the AC Cougars is the State Coaches Championships, followed by the Eastern Mass State Championships and the All State Championships, said Head Coach Jack Dempsey.
