Mayor: Recycling Up, Trash Costs Down

It’s been a year since Medford launched a new containerized trash and single stream recycling program and according to Mayor Michael McGlynn, the city is saving money while helping the environment.

In a statement released Tuesday, Mayor McGlynn said the city saves $531,000 annually with the new program.

In addition to the financial savings, the city’s recycling rate has increased to 24% for the past twelve months from 10% the prior period. Also, solid waste has been reduced by 6,300 tons.

“We continue to advocate for greater recycling throughout the community,” said the statement from Mayor McGlynn.
