Freshmen, Sophomore Runners Shine in League Meet

The Medford girls indoor track team turned in some outstanding performances at the Greater Boston League Freshman/Sophomore Track Championships at Somerville High School on Wednesday, said Coach Jack Dempsey.
Freshmen Korey O’Rourke-Crowley won the 50-yard dash with a time of 6.68 seconds. Teammate Kly Goncalves was at the line with her with a time of 6.69 seconds in second place. In the 300-yard dash the Lady Mustangs finished first and second as well with freshman Bailey Flynn (44.5 seconds) edging out Olivia Allison (44.7 seconds).
In the 1000-yard run freshman Ariana Buelto placed second with a time of 3:31. Sophomore Francesca Spirito was third in the 50-yard hurdles (9.1 seconds) while freshman Tricia Healion finished in 9.2 seconds. Freshmen Megan Fung and Reyna Gontanuk finished fifth and sixth in the 600-yard run as did freshmen Kha Huynh and Daria Eshelmen in the 1-mile run. Sophomores Marissa Coit and Barbara Saunders finished third and fourth in the high jump, clearing the bar at 4 feet 2 inches.
The “Flying Freshmen Foursome†of O’Rourke-Crowley, Allison, Goncalves and Ariana Buelto won the 4 x 400 yard relay in a speedy time of 5:02.
Other Lady Mustangs who competed were sophomores Jamie Traverse, Arianna Desisto, Jess Bacari,and Kayla Miguel and freshmen Damari Grossi, Cynthia Miguel and Hailey Massa.
The freshmen and sophomores will get to show their stuff again at the Auerbach Freshman-Sophomore Meet on Saturday at the Reggie Lewis Track Center in Boston.
