Springstep’s first gallery exhibit of 2012, New Media I Fresh Paint, features the colorful and diverse work of fine artists from the Boston area who participate in the deCordova Museum and Sculpture Park’s Corporate Art Loan Program. Curated by deCordova’s Lending Artist Coordinator Lydia Gordon and installed in Springstep’s grand atrium, the exhibition includes deCordova Lending Artists Joey Asal, Destiny Palmer, and Stephen Hamilton, among others. A public opening reception will be held on Thursday, February 9th from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
deCordova Sculpture Park and Museum’s Corporate Art Loan Program is a membership initiative that offers businesses exclusive Museum benefits and the opportunity to support the local arts community. Corporate Members gain access to the Art Loan Option, an exciting membership benefit that provides businesses the opportunity to exhibit artwork of both established and emerging contemporary New England artists directly in Corporate Member offices. New Media | Fresh Paint highlights the work of several Lending Artists whose work is available for loan through the Corporate Program.
“The show at Springstep allows our Lending Artists to exhibit work outside of what the Corporate Program conventionally offers,†says Lydia Gordon. “A unique exhibition opportunity such as this encourages the artists we showcase to share their current bodies of work as well as less traditional art. The Springstep facility lends itself to innovative programming and we are thrilled to highlight our talented artists.
The Springstep Community Gallery produces four shows each year, exhibiting a wide range of art from established local artists to emerging middle school students. “The unique layout and expansive windows create a great gallery space,“ says Programs Manager Allie Fiske, “It really lends itself to site-specific installations, like the three-dimensional work that is being specially created by Joey Asal. He is planning to incorporate light, movement, and sound in his work to suit the Springstep space.â€
The gallery is open to the public Monday through Thursday from 9:30 AM until 8:30 PM, Fridays from 9:30 AM until 5:00 PM, and Saturday mornings from 9:00 AM until noon on days when classes are in session.
Prior to the gallery reception, there will be a tour of the Springstep facility for those interested in renting the space for private functions from 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM. The gallery reception will be catered by East Meets West and is open to the public.
