‘Story Stomp’ Family Festival at Springstep March 3

Don’t just dive into a good book – wiggle, jump, twirl, and jive into it!

Calling all bookworms (and arts enthusiasts)! On Saturday, March 3rd, from 2 to 5pm, join Springstep in Medford for an exciting afternoon of dancing, drawing, and singing your way through stories. Story Stomp is a family friendly event for children 12 and younger that introduces exciting new ways to experience reading through music, dance, and theater workshops, crafts, a gallery exhibit, storytelling, a book swap, and a community art installation.

Music Together for babies and toddlers will get you and your child moving, dancing and singing using enchanting stories and tales as inspiration. Children ages 4-7 will dive into Creative Movement where they will jump, laugh, and use their imagination to act out stories, words, and letters. Sing-A-Lingo will teach basic Spanish words while taking you and your child on a fun adventure through music and dance. For your older children (ages 8-12), theater activities with Springstep and Stoneham Theater will encourage communication, listening, pantomime, and storytelling through fun, improvisational acting games. At the end of the day, families will be invited to take an imaginative, colorful journey with Miranda Hynes, a local Medford storyteller.

The Springstep Community Gallery will debut the beautiful and fantastical artwork of Andrews Middle School students in their exhibit, Dreaming in Color. Attendees who aspire to the level of artistry exhibited by the Andrews Middle School students are encouraged to try their hand at making art of their own at the craft table, and to participate in the community art installation. Nearby, children and families can gather in the Book Nook to browse through a selection of wonderful children’s books provided by Take a Book, or Leave a Book (TABOLAB), a community based book exchange created for kids by kids with a green concept that promotes literacy.

Delicious treats by Jannabee’s will be available for purchase. Book donations for the TABOLAB program are welcomed. This event is supported in part by a grant from the Medford Arts Council, a local agency which is supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency.
