Student Art Exhibit at Mall this Week
|The following info, posted on the school website, was provided by Medford parent volunteer Jenn DesAutels. The attached photos of the exhibit were taken by Jenn DesAutels and Jane Schwarz. The closeup shots are Cubist portraits and Thiebaud-style gumball machines done by Jen Belanger’s 3rd graders at the McGlynn Elementary School.
Don’t miss the third annual Medford Children’s Art Showcase, on display beginning Saturday, March 10 and continuing through Sunday, March 18. This collaborative and inclusive public exhibit celebrates the creativity and skill of Medford students and art teachers.
The kids are excited to know that their work will be displayed outside of the school environment. The exhibit spotlights arts education in the Medford Public Schools and adds another connection between the schools and the local arts community.
The exhibit has grown from thirty-two participants in 2009 to nearly 300 students this year. Just like the last two exhibits, it features 3rd and 7th graders. This year also includes students from Medford High School.
The Children’s Art Showcase is supported by a grant from the Medford Arts Council, an LCC of the Massachusetts Cultural Council. The exhibit is coordinated by local volunteers.
