Tufts Rowing Teams’ Largest Regatta Saturday
|Tufts University will host its largest regatta of the spring 2012 season this Saturday, hosting Wesleyan University, Wellesley College, Bates College, and the University of New Hampshire for a 23-race card. Crews will be racing on Tufts’ home Malden River Course on seven minute centers beginning at 9:30 a.m. Wesleyan, Bates and UNH return for the 11th consecutive year in the series, which dates back to the early 1990s between host Tufts and Wesleyan.

Bates Women’s Rowing is the reigning NCAA Division III National Silver Medalist, and is currently ranked 2nd in the early 2012 polls, with Wellesley, Wesleyan and Tufts all receiving mention in the national polls. Tufts is 2-1 in early season races, with solid wins over Tulane and Mt. Holyoke. On the Men’s side, Wesleyan has showed good early season form at the Varsity level, while Tufts Novice Eight is undefeated in three early season races.

The races are open to the public. Race spectators can view most of the race course from the Tufts Boathouse located at River’s Edge, 300 River’s Edge Drive, Medford; on the shores of the Malden River. Additional spectator access is also available at the finish line behind 300 Commercial Street in Malden.
The River Cafe at 200 River’s Edge Drive, just south of the Tufts Boat House, will be open from 7:00 a.m. to 12 noon.
