Junior Christina Lynch belted a grand slam and a three-run homer to lead the varsity softball team to a one-sided 11-0 home victory over Cambridge on Thursday afternoon.
Senior pitcher and captain Rayanne Staude and junior Julia Shoop combined for a three hit shut-out, striking out seven with no bases on balls, according to Head Coach Jack Dempsey.
Senior captain Shannon Hussey chipped in with two bunt singles and a run scored as did junior “speedster” Lauren Walsh. Senior captain Jackie Pellecchia contributed a base hit, was hit by a pitch twice, and was “spectacular” at shortstop, making several outstanding plays, said Coach Dempsey. Junior catcher Katie Napier continued her hot hitting with a solid single, maintaining her .500 batting average. Sophomore Sarah Donnelly belted a double to round out the local nine hitting attack.
Video highlights of the game are available on the team’s website.
Thursday’s win was the second in a row for the Lady Mustangs, who improved their Greater Boston League record to 2-1.
Medford will visit Glendale Park in Everett on Tuesday for a big GBL match up.
