Bank Robbery Suspect Arrested

A Medford man arrested in connection with Monday’s bank robbery is also accused of robbing a bank in Charlestown, according to police.
Jason Souza, 29, who has both Medford and Charlestown addresses, was arrested “without incident” in Somerville at 10:30AM on Thursday, May 10. Souza was apprehended by Medford and Somerville Police and the FBI’s Violent Crimes Task Force on Mystic Avenue and McGrath Highway. He is being charged with an unarmed robbery of the Members Plus Credit Union on High Street in Medford Square on Monday.
Souza is alleged to have entered the bank around 10AM Monday morning and to have handed the teller a note that said “give me all the cash in your drawer or you die in 5 minutes.†No weapon was shown or mentioned and he made off with an undisclosed amount of cash.
According to information released by Medford Police, Souza is also going to be charged for a May 8 robbery of a Sovereign Bank on Rutherford Avenue in Charlestown.
The FBI’s Violent Crimes Task Force is composed of personnel from the Somerville Police, Malden Police, Saugus Police, Massachusetts State Police, Boston Police and FBI.
