MHS Students Earn Foreign Language Exam Honors
|This year 308 Medford High School students participated in the annual foreign language contests sponsored by national language organizations AATSP (American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese), AATF (American Association of Teachers of French) and AATI (American Association of Teachers of Italian). Many students received national and/or state recognition.
Spanish Exam
In Spanish, scoring at or above the 95th percentile and receiving gold medals were: Jennifer Frederick, Lina Hart, Winny Kwong Sito, Elizabeth Liu, Lucas Mazzotti, Victor Oliveira, Bryan Peguero, Maria Prodoscimo, and Leila Walker.
Scoring between the 85th and 94th percentile and earning silver medals were: Ana Carolina Araujo, Kylie Baker, Edward Brown, Seth Brownmiller, Abigail Candee, Joao Couto, Alison deRosas, Rebecca DiTucci, Thalita dos Santos Canto, Kyle Ferreira, Aaron King, Sarah Polcaro, Kaleigh Smith, Josue Tejada, Vincent Tran, Lauren Walsh, and Jean-Charles Zurawicki.
Scoring between the 75th and 84th percentile and earning bronze medals were: Lian Blake, Erica Budina, Nabonita Hoq, Ela Kayembe, Clare, Kelley, Hohn McElearney, Anthony Nguyen, Cecilia Petit, Jake Porrazzo, Sarah Ruemenapp, Barbara Saunders, Binit Shrestha, Isabelle, Thibault, Alyssa Valenty, and Roger Vargas.
Scoring above the national average and earning merit certificates were: Avneet Bajwa, Daniel Bozovic, Nicholas Bozovic, Joisleny de Oliveira, Rhianna DePriest, Clare Doncaster, Daria Eshelman, Megan Fung, Kly Goncalves, Tenzin Kalsang, Sarah King, William Kostick,. William Kwan, Amy Lam, Erin Laprise, Megan Lauretti, Bailey Lee, Stephenson Lee, Logan Luongo, Stephen Mahoney, Kayla Miguel, Cameron Mitchell, Monia Morroquin, Kathy Nguyen, Kevin Nguyen, Krista Ortolani, Nicky Pellegrini, Adrienne Porrazzo, Brenda Quach, Cristopher Ribeiro, Deyvid Rocha, Brittney Rodrigues, Stephane Rodrigues, Kevin Seamster, Mariam Taha, Callie Todhunter, Jason Trinh, Doaa Usman, Alana Valdez, Fred Vargus, Christina Vickers, Nathanael Victor, and Paul Williams.
Italian Exam
In Italian, scoring 4th in the nation and receiving $100, was Brendon Breen. Ariana Colozzo and Bryan Silva also received national recognition.
Receiving state recognition were: Barbara Araya, Chad Barrett, Hemilly Correa, Hevilly Correa, Tiago Freitas, Thessie Elisee Jose, Nicholas Germano, Renee Gramolini, Jacqueline Luongo, Kristen McCarthy, Darren McFadden, Pamela Santos, Antonio Sciarratta, Viktoria Tamburini, Susan Smith, Barbara Souza, and Aura Tomala.
Scoring above the national average and earning merit certificates were: Josiane Almeida, Anabeatriz Araujo, Jessica Baccari, John Baily, Andrew Beckshaw, Deborah Cardoso, Jessica Carminato, Andrew Chin, Sarah Diettrich, Blake Donnaruma, Mikaela Hussey, Rahel Faggiano, Nicholas Giurleo, Richard Lynch, Elina Maffeo, Julia Mitrano, Michaela Mitrano, Allison Olivia, Lisa Pizzi, Steven Silvio, Lauren Tomaszczuk, Melanie Zambrana, Shannon Froysa, Alessia LaRocca, Giulia LaRocca, Monica Ricci, Jadwiga Tamburini, and Nicholas Viola.
French Exam
In French there were three Lauréat national students (scoring at or above the 95th percentile): Sharma Jean Jacques, who placed 4th in the northeast region and 4th in the nation, Naika Legros, who scored 6th in the northeast region and 10th in the nation, and Dernicile Occean, who scored 10th in the northeast region and 10th in the nation.
Scoring between the 80th and 90th percentile were: Rebecca Alexis, Shedena Casseus, Reginald Fleurival, Gaelle Rigaud, and Roger Zurawicki.
Scoring above national average and earning merit certificates were: Bianca Limage, Regine Jacques, and Audrey Ring.
All 308 students who participated in the national foreign language exams were treated to an ice cream sundae social on May 22.
