Medford Announces Summer Recreation Opportunities
|Mayor Michael J. McGlynn today announced Medford’s extensive summer recreation program schedule.
“Once again, we are extremely grateful to East Cambridge Savings Bank for their generous donation of $10,000 to the City which assists in the funding of this program. East Cambridge Savings should be commended for their outstanding dedication to the youth of our community.â€
The Summer Recreation program will be directed by Julia Damon and Ann Arsenault. The City’s Park instructors will be located at Victory Park, Wright’s Pond, Hormel/McGlynn Playground and Barry Park. The park program began on June 25th and runs until August 17 and is scheduled for 9 AM – 1 PM each weekday. This program is free of charge to all children in the community, but a pass is necessary to visit the Wright’s Pond site.
In addition to the park program, the coaches at Medford High School have offered reduced price athletic camps throughout the summer. For a fee of $55 per week, campers will be able to select a camp that interests them. Camps run daily from 9 AM to 12 noon. The camps are available starting July 9-13th. Interested students must register online at www.medford.org/summer. The Medford Community Rowing program will also be offering classes. Nellie’s Design, a non profit outreach program, is offering art classes at the Hormel site. The week of July 9-13 art classes will deal with “Art Around the World†and “Let’s Take Flight.†Students aged 5-13 are encouraged to join by registering online at www.medford.org/summer. All participants in any of the camps offered must register one week prior to the start date of each session. Registration and payments can be made online www.medford.org. If classes do not reach minimum enrollment, you will be contacted for a refund.
The Medford Family Network continues to offer “Traveling Playgroups in the Park†as well as, family concerts at Wright’s Pond. During July and August, (begins week of July 10th) the Medford Family Network’s Playgroup schedule is as follows: Tuesdays at Tufts Park, Thursdays at Capen Street Park and Fridays at Victory Park. Wright’s Pond and Tufts Pool are open to Medford residents. Both the Pond and Pool are staffed with certified lifeguards. Passes are required for Wright’s Pond and can be purchased online or at City Hall. Tufts Pool requires memberships and children’s swimming lessons are offered.
