The Medford City Council will begin their abbreviated summer schedule with a meeting on Tuesday, July 10.
Items on the agenda include a request by Kelly’s Roast Beef to extend the hours of operation of its drive-through until 3AM and Common Victualler License requests from Bestsellers Cafe and a new diner.
Saadia Zraizaa of Revere is asking for a license for Medford Square Diner, which will be located at 38 Riverside Avenue.
Rob Dilman is the owner of the popular Bestsellers Cafe, which has been closed for years due to construction. It appears progress is being made, according to a July 2 Facebook post by Dilman:
“Well, the clock started ticking today as we pulled our common victualler’s license and food permit license request today. Over half of the items from storage have been delivered and we should have rest delivered soon. There’s lots of work to be done but it’s now VERY exciting work!!”
The Council will also consider a request from Mayor Michael McGlynn to establish a revolving account for the Recreation program. According to the Mayor, the purpose of the account is to pay operating expenses such as wages and salaries.
The Mayor is also asking the Council to consider the appointment of Heather Merchant to the Medford Housing Authority as tenant representative. The Housing Authority has been the subject of controversy lately after a federal audit revealed serious issues.
Prior to the regular meeting, the Zoning Subcommittee will meet to discuss a proposed ordinance that prohibits satellite dishes, antennas, and other receivers from being placed on the front of residential properties. The new law would require satellite dishes and other receivers to be placed either on the roof or on other parts of a residential property not facing the street.
Building Commissioner Paul Mochi and City Solicitor Mark Rumley have been asked to attend the meeting. City Councilors Paul Camuso, Rick Caraviello, and Fred Dello Russo, Jr. are member of the Zoning Subcommittee. The meeting is taking place at 6:00PM in Room 207 at Medford City Hall.
The regular meeting is taking place at 7:00PM in the Council Chambers. The Council’s next regular meeting is Tuesday, August 7.
