EMARC 18th Annual 5K Road Race September 9

Road race to raise money for individuals with developmental disabilities

EMARC Road Race

EMARC is once again partnering with Marathon Sports to host their 18th annual 5K Road Race and Walk on Sunday, September 9th. The race through downtown Melrose raises funds for individuals with developmental disabilities and their families.

The race kicks off at 9:30 am with a Kids ½ mile Fun Run . The 5K for runners starts at 10:00 a.m. and walkers start at 10:05 a.m. Both races begin and end next to the Melrose Family YMCA located at 497 Main Street.

The 5K is professionally timed and awards are presented after the race in front of the Victorian Fair stage. Brian Slater of the Melrose Running Club and Melrose Mayor Rob Dolan will serve as Race Director and Honorary Chairman of the event. Marathon Sports is the Grand Sponsor.

“This is a great opportunity for individuals, families, and businesses to come out, have fun, and support a great cause” says Amy O’Brien, Director of Development for EMARC.

Last year, more than 300 runners from around Massachusetts came out to support EMARC. For this year’s run, Marathon Sports owner Colin Peddie says he hopes to top that number.

“We’re honored to support and work with an organization like EMARC that is truly dedicated to improving the lives of people with developmental disabilities,” said Peddie.

Runners and walkers can register online at www.emarc5k.com. Registration forms are also available at all Marathon Sports stores and the Melrose Family YMCA. Registration fees are $20 for the 5K ($25 after September 1st). Kids Entry Free with a Parent Registration. Businesses and community organizations are encouraged to run or walk as a group.
