Man Escapes Train Accident with Minor Injuries

Despite the looks of this car, the male driver escaped with only minor injuries after being struck by a train in West Medford Square Thursday morning. Police told Medford Patch the man drove around the gates that come down to prevent cars from crossing while a train is coming through. The train was an Amtrak Downeaster and was passing through Medford without a stop at the station. The accident caused delays on the commuter rail and was quite the scene during the morning rush hour, with emergency personnel and news media checking out the situation. It’s not the first time someone has attempted to drive around the gates, no doubt a dangerously stupid decision, and many residents and local business owners expressed mixed opinions about the safety of the intersection.
