Mass NOW Endorses State Rep. Carl Sciortino

The Massachusetts Chapter of the National Organization for Women Political Action Committee (Mass. NOW PAC) is pleased to announce its endorsement of Representative Carl Sciortino. Carl is running for re-election to the State House of Representatives in the 34th Middlesex District. Mass. NOW has endorsed Representative Sciortino in the past and is pleased to support him this year as well.

Christina Knowles, Chair of the Mass. NOW PAC, says: “Carl has been a steadfast champion of ours since taking office in 2005. We are thrilled to support him through, what I am sure will be, another successful reelection bid. We need more legislators like Carl in the State House joining us in our fight for equality.”

The Mass. NOW PAC endorses candidates who are committed to NOW’s mission and priority issue areas, including reproductive freedom, racial justice, constitutional rights, economic justice, LGBT Rights, and ending violence against women. In order to receive the support of the Mass. NOW PAC, candidates must go through a rigorous endorsement process, including a multi-issue questionnaire and an interview with PAC members.

The Mass. NOW PAC works to ensure that women’s rights and other social justice issues are given a voice on Beacon Hill. Since taking office, Carl has shown leadership in many of Mass. NOW’s priority issue areas. Most notably, Carl was pivotal in passing the Transgender Equal Rights Bill, legislation that he co-sponsored. Additionally, he has been a champion for working class and poor families, fighting to protect the services they need. The Mass. NOW PAC looks forward to reelecting Representative Sciortino to another term in the Legislature and continuing to work with him on important social justice issues.

On receiving the Mass. NOW PAC endorsement, Representative Sciortino says: “I’ve been proud to stand with Mass. NOW on efforts to ensure equal opportunity for women in Massachusetts, and I am grateful for their support for my re-election.”
