The girls varsity volleyball team earned their first win of the season with a 3-0 victory over Somerville on Monday.
Medford Beat Somerville 25-16, 25-17, and 25-23.
“This was a true team effort as nine players added to the points won by Medford throughout the match,” said Coach Alice Beth FitzPatrick.
According to FitzPatrick, senior setter Kayla Greeley had three kills and two aces along with senior middle Lydia Regan with four kills and two blocks. The team was helped with strong defense and serving from senior defensive specialists Alison Ross and Katie Napier, who each added three aces to the points. Junior outside hitter Kelly Foley also added two kills and three aces.
Unfortunately Monday’s win was followed by a 3-0 loss on the road at Malden on Tuesday. The Mustangs are currently 1-5 overall and 1-3 in the Greater Boston League heading into Friday’s away game at Matignon.
