AC Girls, Boys Cross Country Earn Double Victories

Senior girls captain Janelle Solviletti (Billerica) and senior boys captain Kevin Connors (Belmont) each
turned in record-breaking times on Arlington Catholic’s 2.9 mile home cross country course at Menotomy Rocks Park in Arlington on Tuesday. The Cougars led both girls and boys teams to victory.
According to head coach Jack Dempsey, Solviletti traveled the hilly terrain in 19 minutes and 46 seconds, breaking the old record by 17 seconds, held by teammate Kaitlyn MaCauley. Solviletti led her three-time defending league championship team to a convincing double victory over Marian of Framingham (19-42) and Austin Prep (23 -32).
Connors led from start to finish, smashing the old record held by his former teammate Joe Donlon (now running for UMass Lowell) with an outstanding time of 16 minutes and 55 seconds. Connors also led the Cougars to a double victory over Marian (27-32) and Austin Prep (23-33).
Other AC girls who contributed to the Cougar victories were junior Kaitlin MaCauley (Watertown) in fourth place, sophomore Kathleen McLaughlin (Waltham) fifth, junior Hannah Kirby (Arlington) in sixth, junior Olivia Liberti (Medford) in seventh, senior captain Lauren O’Neil (Stoneham) in eighth, and junior Olivia Stewart of Medford in ninth place.
The Lady Cougars improved their record to 4-0.
Following Connors in the boys race were senior Brendon O’Connell (Burlington) in fourth place, junior Allan Judd (Arlington) in sixth, Bryan Daly (Burlington) in seventh, junior Nick Canniff (Arlington) in eighth, senior captain Matt Woods (Arlington) in tenth, and sophomore Sebastian Bisserett (Somerville) in eleventh place.
The boys’ record now stands at three wins and one loss.
Medford Cross Country Defeats Somerville
The Mustang girls cross country team won their first meet with a strong 20 to 36 win over Somerville on Wednesday.
The boys team also defeated Somerville, 21 to 39 (low score wins). Senior captain Steve Mahoney led the Mustangs, winning his first ever cross country meet.
