AC Cross Country Tops League

The Arlington Catholic girls cross country team was once again led by “senior sensation” captain Janelle Solviletti (Billerica) to an undefeated Catholic Central League title.
The Lady Cougars defeated Cardinal Spellman and Matignon on Tuesday to improve their record to 6-0. Solviletti placed first, completing Cardinal Spellman’s 2.8 mile course in the rain in eighteen minutes flat, the second fastest time ever for the course, according to Coach Jack Dempsey.
Junior Kaitlin McCauley (Watertown) placed third, followed by sophomore Kathleen McLaughlin (Waltham) in sixth, junior Hannah Kirby (Arlington) in seventh, junior Olivia Liberti (Medford) in eighth, junior Olivia Stewart (Medford) in ninth, senior captain Lauren O’Neil (Stoneham) in tenth, and junior Jessica Higgins (Peabody) in twelfth place.
The Cougar boys defeated Matignon 18 to 40 but lost to Spellman 26 to 34. Senior captain Kevin Connors (Belmont) finished first and defeated the second place Spellman finisher by thirty-nine seconds, according to Dempsey.
Senior Brendon O’Connell (Burlington) was the next Cougar to cross the line in fifth place, followed by junior Alan Judd (Arlington) in sixth, junior Bryan Daly (Woburn) in tenth, freshman Mike Venditti (Lexington) in twelfth, sophomore Sebastian Biserett (Somerville) in thirteenth, and Nick Canniff (Arlington) in fourteenth.
The boys are currently 4-2.
