Mystic Valley NAACP Holds Biennial Officer Elections
|Mystic Valley Area Branch of NAACP Return Atty. Neil Osborne and Its Executive Committee Team to Another Term of Service
Medford, MA—Pursuant to National Association for the Advancement of Colored People’s Constitution and By-laws the membership of the Mystic Valley Area Branch held an election for officers and executive committee members. During the branch’s General Membership meeting, held on November 26, 2012 at its usual meeting place at the West Medford Community Center, members in good standing voted to again elect:
Atty. Neil Osborne of Medford, President
Rev. Dr. David Kilpatrick of Malden, Vice President
Anna Ekpenyong of Medford, Treasurer
Dotty Walker Gomez of Everett, Secretary
and the following as Executive Committee members:
Jeff Cowen of Waltham
Pearl Morrison of Arlington
Allison Francis of Medford
Joseph Jones of Medford
Rev. Florence King of Medford
Attorney Osborne remarked that his election to a third term at the helm of local branch of the NAACP represents the confidence the civil rights community has in him and the direction of the branch. Within the past term the branch re-established its youth division, actively participated in voter registration efforts and legislative forums, participated in direct action on the Boston Common regarding the Trayvon Martin matter and opposition to Stand your Ground legislation rally in New York City, as well as organized a discussion on 3 Strikes legislation.
While the branch continues to move in a positive direction there is so much more we can do to support issues important to communities of color locally and nationally. Membership at the local level is a key factor to achieving our goals and the foundation of a strong National organization. A strong membership pool helps support the work of the branch’s Standing Committees on Education, Health, Legal Redress, Economic Development, and Membership to produce sufficient local civil rights advocacy.
Attorney Osborne’s chief aim during his next term is raising the number of active members in the branch.
