Church Group Offers Public Blessings

During morning rush hour on Wednesday a small group from Grace Episcopal Church offered blessings at the West Medford Commuter Rail station. The “Blessing Station,” according to The Reverend Noah H. Evans, was an attempt to “help bring peace and comfort during this darkest week of the year.”

“The team is aware that while this time of year is filled with great joy and anticipation for many, it also can be a time of loneliness, loss, grief and despair,” said Rev. Evans in an email.

The group, pictured above, held a sign that read “Blessing Station: Come Experience a Moment of Advent Peace in the Midst of Life’s Busyness.”

According to Rev. Evans, in just over an hour more than twenty people came over for a blessing or prayer. Their concerns ranged from the safety of children in the aftermath of Newtown; health for relatives; unemployment; and general prayers and “thanksgivings.”

“Some folks just walked by and said as passing by, ‘what a great message’ and ‘this gives me hope’,” said Evans.
