Mustang Boys Hoops GBL Opener Friday

With a 69-51 victory over Pope John on Friday night, the boys varsity basketball team has a a strong winning record heading into its first GBL game of the season.
The Mustangs are 6-1 heading into Friday night’s road game against Somerville. The Highlanders are currently undefeated at 6-0.
According to Coach Anthony Faradie, senior guard Jhems Lemene led his team with seventeen points against Pope John. Senior forward Jon Pires, 8-10 from the free throw line, scored fourteen points while senior guard Sean Doncaster, so far averaging thirteen points per game, added thirteen points. According to Faradie, ten guys were “in the scoring column†for Medford.
Defensively the Mustangs had some help from the bench.
“I thought we got a really good defensive effort from junior guard Ryan Covelle off the bench. Junior guard Pat McTague did a really good job for us off the bench with solid defense and orchestrating offense,†said Coach Faradie. “We were able to do a good job of drawing fouls and getting to the free throw line, where we went 12-15.â€
