|– Allison Goldsberry
On Wednesday night the girls varsity hockey team scored three goals at the end of the game to tie Masconomet 4-4 on the road.
Sophomore Nicole Mortell got the scoring started for Medford in the first period, but the team was scoreless until the last period.
The Lady Mustangs were down 4-1 in the third period. Goals from senior co-captain Samantha Lopilato and junior Brittani Lanzilli narrowed the gap to 4-3, according to Coach Dave McCarthy.
With less than a minute to play, Medford took a chance, pulling goalie Ashley Rodriguez in favor of a sixth skater, Kayli Lanzilli. The gamble paid off, with Lanzilli scoring the tying goal with just 37 seconds remaining.
“This was a very good tie, especially being behind by three in the final period and scoring in such dramatic fashion,†said Coach McCarthy.
