Girls Basketball, Hockey Teams Advance in State Tourney

The Medford High School girls varsity basketball and hockey teams each won their preliminary rounds in the state tournament.
The GBL champion Lady Mustang basketball team, 10-10, is ranked sixteenth out of seventeen teams in North Division 1. Medford defeated Chelmsford (#17, 8-10) 52-50 at home on Monday night.

Unfortunately for Medford, their state tournament run ended on Thursday night with a road loss to top seed Lynn English (20-2).
The girls varsity hockey team, 10-7-3, is ranked eighteenth out of twenty-six teams in Division 1. The Lady Mustangs defeated Medway/Ashland (#15, 11-6-3) 5-1 on the road on Wednesday night.
Brittani Lanzilli led the way with 4 goals and an assist, according to Coach Dave McCarthy. Marissa Williams also contributed with 3 assists while sophomore goalie Ashley Rodriquez stopped 18 shots in the winning effort.
Medford now faces second seed Beverly/Danvers (16-2-2). The game is taking place at 1:30PM on Saturday, March 2 at Salem State University.
A win for the girls basketball or hockey team would mean a spot in the quarter finals.
