Mustang Baseball Team Wins Home Opener
|– Allison Goldsberry
The Medford High School baseball team had a successful if cold season opener with a 3-2 victory over Winchester on Saturday.
Medford secured the win with a walk off bases loaded walk from Sean Doncaster in the bottom of the seventh, according to Head Coach Mike Nestor.
Junior Ryan Covelle pitched the first five innings and gave up only two runs, according to Assistant Coach Ryan Kozul. Junior Ryan Colbert stepped in to pitch an inning of relief in the sixth, getting the Mustangs out of a tough jam, while senior John Lavoie earned the win with a scoreless inning of relief in the seventh. Lavoie also played great defense at third, said Kozul.
Junior Kevin Andrew was 2-3 with an RBI and run scored while senior captain and catcher Jake Porrazzo was 2-4. Junior Eric Spinale was 1-3 and earned the first RBI of the game in the second inning.
The Mustangs host Matignon on Tuesday and head to Waltham on Thursday. Their first GBL game is at Somerville on April 17.
