Markey: Comprehensive Gun Control Bill Needed

Rep. Ed Markey released the following statement Thursday following a cloture vote in the Senate to proceed with debate on gun control legislation:

“Today’s vote in the Senate to consider critical gun control measures is an important first step toward curbing gun violence, however this legislation does not go far enough, and we must do more. We need a comprehensive gun control bill that bans deadly assault weapons and high-capacity magazines while expanding universal background checks, and if elected to the Senate I will stand up to the gun lobby and fight for stronger reforms.”

Earlier Thursday the Ed Markey for Senate campaign released a NEW VIDEO on Markey’s commitment to curbing gun violence and standing up to the lobby. The campaign has also aired an ad, “Keep Standing Up,” which focuses on on Ed’s leadership banning assault weapons in the 1990s.
