Tufts Annouces Upcoming Public Concerts
|Knave of Hearts, a world premiere by Tufts Opera Ensemble April 23rd & 24th
The Tufts University Department of Music presents Tufts Opera Ensemble performing “Knave of Hearts†in the Distler Performance Hall at the Perry and Marty Granoff Music Center on Tuesday, April 23 and Wednesday, April 24, 2013 at 8 p.m.
Tufts Opera Ensemble presents the world premiere of Boston composer Vartan Aghababian’s new opera “Knave of Hearts”, based on a play by Louise Sanders. In a fantastical fairytale manner, the opera tells the story of a simple man who retains a silent power over those above him while refusing to join their ranks.

Mambo! April 25th
The Tufts University Department of Music is pleased to present Mambo!, a concert by the Tufts Jazz Orchestra, in Goddard Chapel on the Tufts Medford/Somerville campus on Thursday, April 25, 2013 at 8 p.m.
In this concert, the Tufts Jazz Orchestra continues its tribute to Leonard Bernstein’s West Side Story in a performance of contemporary arrangements and songs from the musical that sizzle, scorch, and ignite excitement in jazz and Latin music. The performance will also feature a special pre-show appearance by Professor Smith’s small jazz ensemble.

Slang, a concert featuring the Tufts New Music Ensemble April 26th
The Tufts University Department of Music is pleased to announce a concert entitled Slang at Tufts University on Friday, April 26, 2013 at 8 p.m. in the Distler Performance Hall of the Perry and Marty Granoff Music Center on Tufts’ Medford/Somerville campus. Tufts New Music Ensemble, under the direction of Donald Berman, presents a performance featuring Loadbang, a New York based new music ensemble, and works by Libby Larsen, Martin Bresnick, and more.

Flute Ensemble in Concert April 28th
The Tufts University Department of Music is pleased to present a concert by the Tufts Flute Ensemble in the Distler Performance Hall at the Perry and Marty Granoff Music Center on Sunday, April 28, 2013 at 3 p.m. as part of the Sunday at Tufts – Community Concert Series. Directed by Nina Barwell, the Flute Ensemble will perform music by Giovanni Gabrieli, Giovani Palestrina, Kelly Via, Simon Desorgher, Jean-Michel Damase, Logan Wright, and Andrew Downes.

Kiniwe April 30th
The Tufts University Department of Music presents a performance by Kiniwe in the Distler Performance Hall at the Perry and Marty Granoff Music Center on Tuesday, April 30, 2013 at 8 p.m. This concert is rescheduled from its cancellation on April 19th.
The concert will feature Kiniwe, the Tufts African Music Ensemble, performing music, songs, and dance from West Africa (Ghana). Director Nani Agbeli, the Agbekor Drum and Dance Society, and special guest Saeed Abbas will join the ensemble.

Dobriden (Good Morning), a Concert by the Jumbo Knish Factory, May 1st
The Tufts University Department of Music presents “Dobriden (Good Morning)â€, a performance by The Jumbo Knish Factory, on Wednesday, May 1, 2013 at 8:00 p.m. in the Distler Performance Hall at the Perry and Marty Granoff Music Center.
The concert will feature Klezmer and Yiddish songs with special guests Warrick Moses and Julia Poirier. There will also be a very special performance by Tufts University physics professor Leon Gunther in celebration of his retirement. Michael McLaughlin is the director of the Jumbo Knish Factory, Tufts Klezmer Ensemble.
