Mustang Softball Team Earns GBL Win Over Everett

The Medford High School girls varsity softball team earned a close 10-8 home victory over Everett on Friday afternoon.
The Lady Mustangs won their third straight game and are so far undefeated in the GBL at 3-0, according to Head Coach Jack Dempsey.
On Friday Medford fell behind by three runs in the first inning but came roaring back to score eight runs in the second inning, taking the lead for good, according to Coach Dempsey.
The local nine banged out thirteen hits, with senior captains Katie Napier and Lauren Walsh leading the team with three hits and two RBI’s each. Walsh also scored three runs and had two stolen bases while Napier scored one run and added a two base hit.
Brianna Napoleone contributed a double and sac fly good for 3 RBI’s. Hannah O’Leary banged out a long triple along with a single while Bailey Flynn chipped in with a bunt single and a stolen base. Senior captain Sam LoPilato contributed a single, two bases on balls, a run scored, and an RBI while senior Christina Lynch hammered a long triple and drove in one run.
Junior Sarah Donnelly doubled, scored once and had an RBI. Freshman pitcher Ashley Eisnor won her third game of the season, striking out eight and walking two. Sophomore Julia Kearney played an outstanding game behind the plate, making some great defensive plays, said Coach Dempsey.
The Lady Mustangs’ next game is with the defending Eastern Mass champion, the Malden Golden Tornadoes, at Malden on Wednesday afternoon.
