Markey Wins Special Senate Election

Long-time Democratic Congressman Edward Markey successful defeated Republican Gabriel Gomez in the special Senate election on Tuesday, according to published reports.
According to several sources Markey had around 54% of the vote compared to around 46% for Gomez, with over 80% of precincts in the state reporting results.
Markey handily won Medford, earning 68% of the vote while Gomez received 32% of ballots cast in Medford on Tuesday.
Markey tweeted the following around 9:20PM:
“Thank you Massachusetts! I am deeply honored for the opportunity to serve you in the United States Senate.”
Markey will be at Dempsey’s Breakfast and Lunch on Wednesday morning at 9:30AM to thank voters, according to his campaign. Dempsey’s is located at the corner of Lambert and Salem Streets near the Medford/Malden line.
