Councilor Lungo-Koehn Running for Re-election
|My name is Breanna Lungo-Koehn and I would like to announce my candidacy for the Medford City Council. I have been a city councilor for almost 12 years and am currently a candidate for my 7th term.
I would like to start by giving you a little background about myself. I was born and raised in Medford. I grew up on South Street in Medford having been raised by my parents, Edward and Susan Lungo. I am proud to have a hardworking Sister, Arianna, who teaches at the Roberts Elementary School in Medford. My sister and I attended St. Joseph’s school and I graduated from Medford High School in 1998. I received my undergraduate Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice and Psychology from Endicott College in 2002. I then went on to law school at, Massachusetts School of law, and received my Judicial Doctorate Degree in 2006.
I opened a law practice in Wellington Circle four and a half years ago with my long time friend, Cathleen Collins called the Law Offices of Lungo-Koehn & Collins, LLP. Cathleen and I have worked hard to establish a reputable, trusting law practice that has helped hundreds of people with their legal needs. In 2011, Cathleen and I opened a second business, LKC Realty, LLC., which we have been working to establish and grow.
I have been married to my husband David Koehn for over six years. Although he is from New York, I am happy to announce that he now considers himself a Red Sox, Patriots, Bruins and MUSTANG fan. Dave and I are extremely lucky to have two girls, Bayley who is 5 and just entered Kindergarten at the Roberts Elementary school and Kaliway who is 3 and just entered pre-school at Kelly’s unique Kids. Â
I hope that my daughters and all of Medford’s children grow up being afforded all the opportunities and offered all the programming that I was offered. No matter how tough times get, we should strive to add to our schools and extracurriculars, not take things away. I have happily supported new science labs, renovation to the Medford High school pool, and new technology for our schools. The projects came at an expense to the City, but after careful review of the city’s finances and bond indebtedness, I believed and still believe the projects needed to be approved.
When I first ran for the Medford City Council I stated that “one of the Seven should be close to the youth†and now more than ever that statement is true. The past several years have been tough. The economy has not been thriving as we would like it to and our local aid has been slashed dramatically. We have been left worrying about the city and school budget. I feel my role on the council is important, within my twelve years; I have fought to maintain programs and start new ones. I’ve helped establish a varsity girl’s hockey team; I worked on establishing an affordable summer camp at the Columbus elementary school (Medford Summer Camp). I have fought year after year to save the Medford Park league Program.
I am committed to our children needs because it is so important to grow up learning in a classroom with low class size, to be taught by great teachers, to have the opportunity to read books at our libraries, to be able to act in the school play, to be able to play the sport of your choice, to attend afterschool programs, camps and parks programs. Although those under 18 do not have the privilege to vote, if re-elected I will continue to fight for our children, and their well being.
If re-elected I will also continue to be a strong voice for public safety. In 2010-2011 I was a leader in speaking out about the deplorable conditions at the Department of Public works facility, the Police station, and the fire stations. I was the chair of the public safety committee and led the council through the police and DPW facilities to investigate and push for a change. Since that time the City has invested a great deal into improvements to both the police and fire stations. After those meetings, the DPW facility was condemned and a new facility will be built shortly. All of that hard work by the council and administration has made it safer and healthier for our public safety personnel and the residents who frequent those buildings. Our dedicated men and women deserve it.
I will continue to push for proper parking enforcement. Parking enforcement is so badly needed in this community. It will help our businesses thrive as well as bring in much needed revenue to this city. Implementing parking enforcement will be a true to test to see whether or not a parking garage is needed in Medford Square. Â
With my 12 years experience on the Medford City Council, my years of studying, and my time as an Attorney, I believe that the Medford voters can entrust that I am able to do an effective and efficient job as their Medford City Councilor.
I will continue to work hard to make a difference within the City of Medford. I will continue to do my homework so that each and every vote I make is the right vote; the vote that I believe will benefit the City and our citizens. I will continue to be as responsive as possible, to e-mails, phone calls, complaints and concerns of our residents. I will continue to work with the city to solve problems and work to prevent new ones. I want to keep fighting to stop unnecessary spending to help the hardworking tax payer who is trying to get by. I will continue working to earn the respect of those who trust in me. I respectfully ask for your vote on November 5th so that I can continue working for you.
I want to take this opportunity to thank all that have supported me thus far, whether it was with a vote, donation, yard sign, etc.. I ask for your support again.
I will conclude by promising you that I am committed to the City of Medford.
I am committed to the residents of this community, and I am committed to Medford’s Future
