Medford to Add More Veterans to Honor Roll Park

Michael J. McGlynn announced plans to add the names of all Medford residents who served in Operation Desert Storm, Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF) and Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF) to Honor Roll Park. Seventy-seven Medford residents served during Operation Desert Storm, and 348 Medford residents served during OIF/OEF.

The dedication ceremony will take place on Sunday, November 3, 2013, at 1 PM at Honor Roll Park, located at 489 Winthrop Street at the bottom of the hill leading up to Medford High School.

First dedicated in 2005 to the 10,902 Medford residents who served in World War II, and expanded in 2007 to honor Medford residents who served in Korea (3,344) and Vietnam (2,730), Honor Roll Park will again expand to honor all Medford residents who served during our most recent conflicts.

The Massachusetts National Guard’s Honor Guard Unit, along with its Artillery Unit, will be participating in the ceremony. Medford’s Alumni Band, under the direction of Mrs. Marsha Caron, will be providing music, and the Mount Rushmore Flag, the American Flag that, when unfurled, is 9 stories high, will also be a part of the event.

Funding for the Park has been provided by public/private partnerships and municipal funds in excess of $700,000 thus far. The ceremonies have honored and will continue to honor all of our veterans with a deep sense of respect for the sacrifice, dedication and courage displayed by their service in our military.
