Mystic Valley Area Branch NAACP to Meet October 21

The history of the Mystic Valley Area branch dates back to 1977 when the predominately African American community of West Med-ford petitioned the National office of the NAACP to form an independent branch. Over the years the branch attracted like minded individuals from surrounding cities into the branch’s civil rights activities. To better reflect the regional makeup of branch members the National office accepted our name change to the Mystic Valley Area branch. The branch’s jurisdiction now includes: Arlington, Everett, Malden, Medford, Winchester, and Wo-burn. For the past few years the branch held its membership meetings on the fourth Monday of the month at the West Medford Community Center on Arlington Street, Medford.

In an effort to increase participation in the regional Mystic Valley Area branch, general membership meetings over the coming year will be held in locations all across our jurisdictions not just in Medford.

Kicking off the roving meeting place is Arlington with a branch general membership meetings scheduled for 7:30 pm on October 21, 2013 (note 3rd Monday) and November 25, 2013 in the Robbins Library Community Room. The public is welcome and encouraged to join us for lively discus-sions on issues important to civil rights advocacy as well as hear from dynamic presenters.

Founded in 1909 , the NAACP is the nation’s oldest and largest civil rights organization. From the ballot box to the classroom, the thousands of dedi-cated workers, organizers, leaders and members who make up the NAACP continue to fight for social justice for all Americans.
