Route 16 Shut Down for Shooting Investigation

Route 16 in Medford is shut down in both directions between Wellington and Mystic Avenue following a shooting that happened overnight.

According to published reports, the incident began with a traffic stop around 2:30AM. After pulling the car over, something happened to make the State Trooper fear for his safety and he fired on the two male suspects in the car.

The two suspects were taken to Massachusetts General Hospital and their injuries are not considered life threatening, according to WBZ News Radio. The trooper has been placed on paid administrative leave while an investigation takes place.

It is unknown when Route 16 will re-open.
