Peter McGaffigan, 85
|Peter W. McGaffigan, Jr. passed away peacefully at his Andover home after a long illness. He was 85.
Raised in Medford, he was the son of the late Peter and Celia (Judge) McGaffigan. After graduating from high school, Peter enlisted in the Marine Corps and served during the Korean War attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant. Upon his discharge, Peter returned to Medford and was appointed to the Medford Police Department. He served on the department for 38 years. Peter was active in the community and was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Irish American Club, American Legion, VFW and the Norman Prince Drum and Bugle Corps. Devoted to his family and always wishing to provide the best he could, Peter worked many part-time jobs throughout his life to make life better for his loving wife and children.
The beloved husband of Carol (Byrnes) McGaffigan, he was a devoted father to: Peter McGaffigan and his wife Ruth of Woburn, Susan Monaco of Andover and her late husband Ronald, Richard McGaffigan and his wife Beth Ann of Tewksbury, Patricia Coccoluto and her husband John of Wilmington, Kevin McGaffigan and his wife Kathleen of Medford, Paul McGaffigan and his wife Donna of Wilmington, Maj. Michael McGaffigan and his wife Roxanne of Hampstead, NH. Peter was a loving grandfather to 14 grandchildren and a dear brother to Rosemary Moran of Woburn and the late Elizabeth and John McGaffigan.
Relatives and friends may visit at the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St. Medford, Monday from 4 thru 8 PM and again on Tuesday August 26 at 10:30 AM followed by a funeral mass celebrated in the Immaculate Conception Church, 600 Pleasant Street, Malden at 11:30 AM. Services will conclude with burial at Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.
