Green Line Construction Receives Notice to Proceed; Public Meetings Planned
|Photo by Alexander Svirsky, MassRoads.com.The project to extend the Green Line to Somerville and Medford has moved forward with the approval of early contract work.
White Skanska Kiewit, JV (WSK), the Construction Manager-General Contractor (CM/GC) for the GLX Project, received their Notice to Proceed (NTP) for their first three GLX contracts, according to information released by MassDOT.
The contract work will include “the procurement of long lead items necessary for the project (GMP#1); early utility work (GMP #2); and work along the Fitchburg Mainline (Union Square branch) & Miller’s River drainage work (GMP#3).”
Two public meetings about the project are planned. On Tuesday, October 28 the new Lechmere Station will be discussed. The meeting is taking place from 6-8PM at the Cambridge Multicultural Arts Center, 41 Second Street in East Cambridge. On Thursday, November 6 a public meeting about the Washington Street and Union Square stations will take place from 6-8PM at the Holiday Inn, 30 Washington Street in Somerville.

I’d like to see a lot more discussion of the proposed route 16 station on this site. As a community we need to rally around this station or risk losing a once in a lifetime opportunity.
