Lady Mustang Hockey Team Wraps Up Season
|On Wednesday, February 18th the Medford High girls varsity hockey team wrapped up its season with a 3-1 loss to Middlesex League opponent Woburn. The Mustangs were able to jump out to a 1-0 lead midway through the first period thanks to senior defenseman Adrienne Porrazzo scoring her 10th goal of the season. Medford’s two goalies Ashley Rodriquez and Trisha MacLean both came up with key saves to keep the game within reach. Rodriquez stopped Woburn’s leading goal scorer Erica Lissner on a breakaway and MacLean made a highlight glove save but the Tanners Lissner, Georgie Santullo, and Cassidy Connelly were able to score the final three goals of the game.
A day earlier Peabody skated past the Lady Mustangs 2-1. The Lady Mustangs held the lead for most of the game as eighth grader Christina Gesualdi scored on a wrist shot on the power play eight minutes into the first period. After a scoreless second period the Tanners capitalized twice in the third period. The tying goal came with 5 minutes left in the game and the Tanners eventually took the lead on a breakaway goal by sophomore Elise Murphy with 2 minutes remaining. It was Murphy’s ninth goal of the season. Prior to the game the Mustangs honored their five seniors including Nicole Mortell, Kayli Lanzilli, Marykate Cullinane, Adrienne Porrazzo, and Ashley Rodriquez.
