Road Race Raises Money for Boston Children’s Hospital

The Foundation of Friends produced the 2nd annual RUNNING OF THE LEPRECHAUNS to benefit Boston Childrens Hospital on Saturday, March 15, 2015 in Medford, MA. The event fielded 600 participants as costumed runners on a mission took to the start line at 10:30am in the drizzling rain. The crowd cheered as Boston Celtics Mascot “Lucky” flipped in the air just before the race took off. Titus Mutinda, last year’s 2nd place winner, took home 1st place with a time of 16:55. Dan Green of Quincy came in 2nd at 17:09 with Dan Forward of Medford came in 3rd at 17:30. The first woman was Emily McDivitt of Melrose with a time of 20:40. Emily was one of many “Miles for Miracles” Boston Children’s Hospital Charity Runners taking part in the race. The finish line crowd erupted as 11 year old Amy Orcutt of Medford blazed her way through 1st Under 13 at 21:44. Mayor McGlynn placed a race medal on every child under 13 to cross the finish line. A traditional St. Patrick’s Day party followed the event. The feet were stomping and hands clapping to the lively Irish Band of Rare Auld Times and the award winning Irish dancers of Goulding School of Dance. Irish Bread baked by the culinary students at Medford High School was served with beef stew. Lisa’s Pizza was served to the children.
