Tufts Announces Upcoming Public Concerts
|Tufts Early Music Ensemble Performance April 14th
The Tufts University Department of Music presents In Nets of Golden Wyers, a performance by the Tufts Early Music Ensemble, in the Distler Performance Hall at the Perry and Marty Granoff Music Center on Tuesday, April 14, 2015 at 8:00 p.m. The Early Music Ensemble explores English gems from Dowland to Purcell, consorts, songs, and sundry music for viola da gamba, violin, voice, and harpsichord, with guest artists Roy Sansom and Heloise Degrugillier, recorders. The ensemble is directed by Jane Hershey.

Tufts African Musical Ensemble Kiniwe to Perform April 17th
The Tufts University Department of Music presents a concert featuring Kiniwe, Tufts African Music Ensemble, in the Distler Performance Hall at the Perry and Marty Granoff Music Center on Friday, April 17, 2015 at 8:00 p.m. Under
the direction of Attah Poku, Tufts’ African music ensemble presents a program of music and dance of the Ashanti people of Ghana with a piece called “Sekye”, originally performed in the palace of the King and Queenmother for light entertainment. Nani Agbeli returns to Tufts for a featured solo dance. Other groups performing include the Agbekor Drum and Dance Society and Ahenema Cultural Troupe from New York City.

Tufts Jazz Orchestra Concert April 18th
The Tufts University Department of Music presents A Child Is Born, a concert by the Tufts Jazz Orchestra, in Goddard Chapel on the Tufts Medford/Somerville campus on Saturday, April 18, 2015 at 8 p.m. Under the direction of
Joel LaRue Smith, the Tufts Jazz Orchestra celebrates the birth of jazz with music from the rich tradition of Big Band jazz from New Orleans, Kansas City, and New York, including the works of Count Basie, Thad Jones, and John Coltrane. Music from the Great American Songbook by Cole Porter, Harold Arlen, and Irving Berlin, as well as exciting modern arrangements of Latin, Jazz, and Funk will also be performed. Special guest artists Bill Lowe and Jeff Galindo join the TJO on trombone.
